The Baclaran Devotion
|

During Wednesday expect heavy traffic especially if you are heading south. If you bother to ask the driver they would simply reply " Baclaran Dday po kasi". Filipino being known to have a strong devotion and spiritual beliefs don't mind if they are stuck in heavy traffic as long as they reach their destination the Baclaran church. Hundreds and even thousand of devotees goes to Baclaran to hear mass and pray the novena which I have no idea why it is scheduled every Wednesday.
For first timers who wanted to visit Baclaran, dressed not to impress but instead dress in your casual or you will be a magent for pickpocket and hold up men. The busiest days in Baclaran are during Tuesday, Wednesday and on weekends. During those days, sidewalks are full of merchandise that anyone could imagine from designer clothes, bags, accessories and a lot more. But there are also shopping malls for a more convenient way to go shopping. But still the best deals are can be found along the sidewalks.
The place is also known to be a shopping destination for bulk buyer of clothes, fashion accessories and other merchandise. But a joke says "once a fashion trend is already seen in the sidewalks of Baclaran its time to drop off that trend". Baclaran stalls are full or designer bags, clothes and everything you can imagine with regards to fashion in a very cheap price, you know what the catch is. After a day of shopping you can wind up and fill up you empty stomach in Seaside Market eatery where variety of sea foods are served.
My mom during my younger days would bring me along to the busy streets of Baclaran to hear mass. And every Wednesday after school I was always excited because we are going to the LRT. I remember it was still the old school way that they use coins instead of the electronic card today. In Baclaran my mom used to buy me my clothes, variety of cheap toys and some school materials. Up to this day I still visit the Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran not just to shop but also to refresh my spiritual devotions. Even the rich and the famous including local celebrities visit the shrine but they do it Tuesday midnight to avoid the crowd.
Baclaran for sure is here to stay whether the economy is good or bad. No matter your status in life during this time were the economy is in slow progress it is better to look for an alternative place to shop were it meet your needs and will not broken your budget.
